Cornhusk Votives How-To
On a cutting mat, use a ruler and utility knife to cut the widest part of the dried cornhusks (available at crafts stores) to the height of your votive holders. Apply double-sided tape around a votive holder, about 1/4 inch from the bottom. Affix 2 or 3 cornhusks, overlapping the edges, to the holder. Finish by tying with a ribbon.

Shocking Halloween Silhouette Candle Creatures!

As day turns to night, call on candles to cast an eerie glow throughout your home. When fierce silhouettes are propped above them, spectacular shadows dance across the walls.
Silhouette How-To
1. Print templates. Trace onto heavyweight black card stock; cut out with a utility knife. Straighten a length of 18-gauge wire, and tape one end to the back of a card-stock creature.
2. Using pliers, shape the other end of the wire into a circle large enough to loop around the bottom of a candleholder. Bend the wire so the card stock creature is positioned behind the back lip of the glass.
3. Be sure to use a candleholder that is taller than the candle, in order to keep the flame away from cutout. Adjust distance from wall to create smaller or larger shadows.

Halloween Candle Craft
Afraid of the dark? Illuminate the night with these marvelously macabre candleholders.

STEP 1: Measure the height and circumference of the glass candleholder you want to transform.
STEP 2: Scan or download a copyright-free black-and-white illustration onto your computer (we used antique drawings from The Clip Art Book, from $7.59; Gramercy). Using Adobe Photoshop or a similar photo-editing program, adjust the image’s size and orientation to fit your vessel’s measurements (it may help to print a sample first).
STEP 3: Once the image is the correct size, load white vellum into your printer and print. Gently set the image on a flat surface for a few minutes to allow the ink to dry.
STEP 4: Trim the vellum so it measures exactly as tall as your candleholder and half an inch wider than its circumference.
STEP 5: Wrap the paper around the candleholder and secure the overlapping ends with double-sided tape. Fit the glass with a candle and light.

Recycled Jar Candle Holder

Learn how to make this decorative candle holder using a recycled jar, designed by Ellen Allan.
Materials and Tools:
mayonnaise jar
glass etching cream
craft brush
Masquepen with Supernib
seed beeds
3-5 fancy big beads
Krylon stained glass spray paint
votive candle
1-1/2 yard 28-gauge nontarnish silver wire

Steps:
1. Clean and dry empty mayonnaise jar.
2. Use the Supernib attachment on the Masquepen to make a design all over the jar. Little squiggles can be nice, as well as shapes like stars and hearts. You can also write sayings or words.

3. Apply a thick layer of etching cream. Wait five minutes and then wash off.

4. Take jar outside and spray the inside lightly with a few coats of the stained glass paint. When working with spray paint, be sure to work outdoors or in a well ventilated area.

5. String 36 inches of seed beads on to the wire. Wrap the beaded wire around the top of the jar in between the grooves where the lid would go.

6. Wrap the ends of the wires together and finish by putting big beads on the ends. Place candle inside jar.
